Bombing suspect sought
PA Wellington A man who dumped a briefcase into the sea on the day of the Trades Hall bombing is being sought by detectives. They said that a middleaged man tried to sink the briefcase with a stick after throwing it into the harbour. Detective Inspector E. A. Lines said that a man was seen by a passer-by who reported the incident to the police because it looked suspicious. Police divers have been unable to recover the case. “We would like the person to come forward and tell us why he was disposing of the briefcase,” Mr Lines said. “We want to know if it is in any way connected with the inquiry.” Mr Lines said the man might have a reasonable explanation but his actions were suspicious.
