Two players banned
NZPA-AFP Singapore Two players and an official have been expelled from the Asia-Oceania preOlympic soccer tournament after a free-for-all fight at Monday night’s match between Qatar and Iraq. Qatar’s Manaa Saud was told he could take no further part in the tournament, but Harris Mohammed Hussain, of Iraq, faces further disciplinary action as he will be reported to the International Football
Association (F.1.F.A.). Harris Mohammed was found guilty of kicking the referee, Zhang Daqiao, of China, and Sameer Muhdi of charging on to the field armed with a wooden placard. Announcing the decision, K. Ziauddin, the disciplinary committee chairman and Asian Football Confederation vice-president, said F.I.F.A. would be meeting in Zurich from May 17 to 21 and Harris Mohammed’s conduct would be discussed. “It will be up to F.I.F.A.
to decide if he should be suspended for a further period besides his expulsion from this tournament,” Mr Ziauddin said. The disciplinary committee said that Manaa Saud came on to the field from the bench to take part in a fracas at the end of the match — which Qatar won 2-0. Sameer Muhdi, the Iraq team doctor, was expelled as an official and will not be allowed to sit on the bench during his team’s games.
