Jenner at short odds at Claudelands tonight
Special correspondent Auckland After his fine performance at Addington last Saturday, Jenner deserves to be a strong favourite in the main race at the Waikato Trotting Club’s meeting at Claudelands this evening. He is on 25m but the opposition in the Max Harvey Handicap is not nearly as formidable as that in the New Zealand Trotting Championship. In that race, Jenner was third to Basil Dean and Sir Castleton in the national record time of 3min 15.3 s for 2600 m. The previous best was 3:15.4s by the pacers, Bonnie’s Chance and Jaw.
Jenner was six and threequarter lengths behind Basil Dean at the finish but, even so, he must have beaten the old trotting record of 3:19.5s held by Sir Castleton. With the possible exception of Landora’s Pride and Cal Brydon, none of Jenner’s rivals tonight looks capable of returning such a fast time. He has previously shown good form at Claudelands—he won there off the 25m mark in January when the distance was the same as in the Max Harvey Handicap, 2900 m, Landora’s Pride looks sure to give him stout opposition. In her- next race after
running fourth in the event won by Jenner at Alexandra Park on March 31, she scored decisively there on April 13. Landora’s Pride was the best three-year-old trotter in the country last season and she has continued to show splendid form. Indeed, it seems she does not know how to go a bad race. It will come as a major surprise if she does not give another fine account of herself. The Trigon Plastics Mobile Pace, the second leg of the T.A.B. double, is notable for the presence in the field of Look Me
