Derby winner is turned out
The John Brandon New Zealand Derby Stakes winner, Naval Officer, will not start in the Downie Stewart Pace, second leg of the T.A.B. treble at Forbury Park tomorrow. The son of Midshipman returned south with his part-owner, Brian O’Meara, early this week and he is to
be spelled for about a fortnight. A start in the Queen’s Birthday Stakes at Ashburton on June 4 is under consideration for him, but it is possible he will be reserved for four-year-old racing next season, when he will have numerous rich opportunities.
