Scours campaign
Veterinarians in Canterbury are on the lookout for outbreaks of winter scours. This disease can affect sheep of any age, which scour, then die. Up to 10 per cent of flocks may be affected and up to 5 per cent may die. M.A.F. vets in association with the Lincoln Animal Health Laboratory have prepared plans for intensive investigations of outbreaks, should they occur. They hope to find out what causes winter scours and its effect on the productivity of a sheep flock. Farmers are asked to contact their vets if they have scouring problems in their flocks which do not respond to drenching.
