Hart advertisement
Sir, — Bert Walker’s reference to Biblical verses in his response to Hart’s recent advertisement and what he sees as Hart’s misleading facts is unfortunate, out of context and unwarranted. Thousands of clergymen of all denominations have voiced their opposition to South Africa’s apartheid policies, and the irony is that on the basis of Mr Walker’s statements, we might have to label their views as “another Gospel” or as contrary to Christian beliefs perhaps? Mr Walker seems to be seeking to undermine Hart’s credibility; but it should be pointed out that it is not only Hart which condemns apartheid, but also the major Western governments, religious groups world wide and the United Nations. Should they all be collectively dismissed as Marxist lackeys? Does he seriously doubt that they speak on behalf of the blacks in South Africa? — Yours, etc., RABINDRA NATHAN. April 18, 1984.
