Hart advertisement
Sir,—lt would be intolerable if freedom of choice by law-abiding citizens in New Zealand was curtailed because of distorted and exaggerated claims made intentionally or otherwise by Hart. One cannot speak about South Africa in isolation — it is a part of the African continent and must be treated as such. It is the only stable country in Africa, and the country upon which all African states depend for their survival. Last year, senior journalists from around the Western world saw for themselves South Africa as it is today, not as it may have been in 1884. Their unanimous verdict rejected, claims by Hart. If things are as ijKl as John Summers claims (Ap3121) he should explain why an additional six million black immi-
grants apply each year for permanent residence in South Africa. A popular black leader in Soweto told me recently that Hart’s claims hurt, not help, the black people in South Africa. — Yours, etc.,
BERT WALKER. April 22, 1984.
