Many Easter break-ins
The Easter holiday weekend came to a dismal end for many Christchurch householders yesterday. Between 1 p.m. and 11 p.m. the Christchurch police received 30 calls from holidaymakers who had returned to find that their homes had been burgled, and, in some cases, vandalised. A police spokesman said that there had been no set pattern in the burglaries. “There were a few videos.
In short, the rest was anything that wasn’t bolted down,” he said. The number of break-ins was higher than usual for a long week-end in Christchurch, partly because the holiday for many householders had included Tuesday and Anzac Day. The Christchurch police also had to deal with an unusually large number of domestic incidents yesterday and last evening.
