S.I. badminton selection
Canterbury has a strong representation in the South Island badminton team to make a tour of the North Island next month. Two men and four women have been included in the party of 10, which will compete in the Counties and North Shore open tournaments and will also have matches against those two associations, as well as Waitemata and Auckland.
The men, Prasanna Gulasekharam and Shane Tetai, are the most promising of the younger brigade in Canterbury. The four women, Colleen Hellyer, Alison Ross, Jane Clarkeall of whom have national rankings—and Delwyn Barrett, will be joined by the young Otagb player, Julie Still.
The other three men on the tour will be the South-
land trio of Nigel and Peter Skelt and Michael Lindsay. The two non-travelling reserves are also from Can-terbury-Graham Sercombe and Paula Thorpe. Some of the squad will remain in the North Island for the Austin singles event in New Plymouth on May 19. The tour begins on May 4 with the Counties open and will conclude with the Auckland match on May 16.
