Phillips fined $l5O
The Foxton-based horseman, Gary Phillips, was fined $l5O for careless riding by the Canterbury Jockey Club’s judicial committee yesterday.
Phillips, the rider of Atrapar in the Great Easter Handicap, was found to have jostled Gaffa (A. K. Robinson) as he improved on the outside of Sporting Show (R. Montgomery) about 200 m from the finish.
After hearing evidence from Robinson, the assistant stipendiary steward stationed nearby, viewing the film and also bearing a statement from Phillips, the committee upheld the charge.
In coming to this decision, the committee took in to account that Atrapar is notieasy
to ride and also that Gaffa was beginning to give ground at that stage of the race.
