Betting soared on 7-race programme
Course betting reached $300,067 on a programme of seven races on the second day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting yesterday.
This was an increase of $115,812 on the total bet on a nine-race programme on the corresponding day last year.
Last year’s second-day
programme was run in showery weather, but unlike yesterday’s it did not have competition for the T.A.B. dollar from any other galloping meeting.
There were four T.A.B. meetings yesterday and, as could have been expected, off-course betting on the C.J.C. races took a substantial drop on last year.
