New' 4W.D. champion

PA Tauranga A Levin driver, Syd D’Ath, became the new national fourwheel drive champion at Tauranga yesterday. His win was a triumph for his new home-built machine, based on an Austrian Haflinger motor and transmission. The runner-up was Wanganui’s Don Cowper, a threetimes winner. The defending champion, Owen Poad, of Tauranga, was third.

All three vehicles were from Class C for modified fourcylinder machines. ' D’Ath was also a clear winner of Sunday’s competition, losing only 389 penalty points. The provisional champion in Class D was a Waikato driver, G. Gifford (969 points). Other results: Class B: L. Thomsen (Manawatu).
