Refuge threatened
PA Wellington Financial problems are threatening the future of a West Coast refuge for unwanted horses.
Money is needed to buy hay for the animals following the long dry spell. The owner of Reefton’s Horse Haven, Mr Silas Derrett, is appealing to the public for help. Mr Derrett said yesterday he had sold his horse float to get money for hay, and unless the public supported him he would have to sell his car and tractor as well. He estimated that he needed between $5OOO and $lO,OOO.
