Country music awards
A Wellington man scooped up the main prizes in the Old Time Country Music Festival awards, the finals of which were held last evening. Roger Tibbs won the Australia and New Zealand song section, the open section, the Gospel and the best male singer in the contest at the Christchurch Town Hall last evening. The contest was part of the fifth annual New Zealand Old Time Country
Music Festival, which began in the city on Friday. Auditions for the contest were held all week-end and attracted ' 130 entrants in nine sections. The winners in the other sections were: under 12, Melissa Burrows, of Christchurch; under 16, Alison Mac Kay, of Timaru; Junior Duo, Alison and Wendy Mac Kay, of Timaru; best female singer, Barbara Lloyd, of Christchurch.
