A dropped goal four minutes from the finish
gave Otago A a 15-12 win over Canterbury in the main match of the South Island university rugby tournament at Ham on Satur-
day. All Otago’s points came from kicks at goal, the first 12 being four penalty goals by K. Cronin. The loose forward, Gerard Davidson, scored Canterbury’s only try. It was converted by Steve
Karpik, who also kicked two penalty goals.
In the other game Lincoln College and Otago B drew 15-15. Lincoln scored three tries, by Anthony Dalzell, Simon Anderson, and J. Aus-
tin, and John Earl kicked a penalty goal. K. Putt and K. Campbell scored Otago B’s tries. H. Halligan converted both and kicked a penalty goal. The cup for the best and fairest team at the tournament was won by Otago B.
