School Certificate
Sir,—The insidious thing about the flag-raising debate is that it is distracting attention from the more serious issue of the fairness of the School Certificate examination system with its varying pass quotas for subjects. I believe that the Education Department's attitude to the Maori language whereby only a small percentage of candidates are “pernutted” to pass is a national disgrace and is creating divisions in our society. — Yours, etc., ; LOIS GRIFFITHS. > Afjril 18, 1984. >
