U.S. reading habits
NZPA staff correspondent Washington More than half of all Americans, 56 per cent, have read at least one book, even though it may have been just a comic book, in the last six months, according to a poll by a book industry study group. Thirty-five per cent of the book readers read at least a book a week, the poll showed, which is considerably more than the 18 per cent in 1978. The average person spends 11.7 hours reading books or other publications each week, 16.3 hours watching television, and 16.7 hours listening to radio.
