Heart girl ‘stronger’
NZPA-AAP Sydney Fiona Coote was told yesterday that she had a new heart, and doctors at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, said that she took the news welL Doctors said that Fiona, aged 14, from near Tamworth in northern New South Wales, was getting stronger and that she was able to get out of bed yesterday. Fiona had sat in a chair for the first time since her operation on Sunday while she was visited by her two sisters, Kim, aged 20, and Stacey, aged 18. She had been able to cough yesterday morning because of the success of continuing physiotherapy on her lungs. Fluid in her lungs has been a serious problem hampering her recovery. A hospital spokesman said that her condition remained critical and that she still had to face the possibility of her body’s rejecting its new heart over the next few days.
