‘Clowns’ case near end

PA Auckland The jury hearing the Springbok tour “clowns” case was told by Mr Justice Prichard in the High Court at Auckland yesterday that the case was approaching its end. The hearing, in which three peope are suing the police for assault during the tour, has lasted two weeks. Plaintiffs are Jacques Monroe, a nurse aid, Glenn Bryndley Spiller, a sheetmetal worker, and Janina Kaye Adamiak, a student. They claim they were protesting peacefully while dressed as clowns when they were attacked by three policemen. Each is suing the Attor-ney-General, in respect of the Police Department, for $50,000. Mr Stuart Grieve, for the Crown, said his evidence should be completed on Monday morning.
