Paying for news
Sir,—ln your leading article of April 11 you say: “Paying for news, or access to news, has never been the custom in this country; it should not become the custom.” I do not see Sir Robert Muldoon’s proposal to charge the media for news or access to it as an attack or reprisal for anything, merely a sign of the economic times. If you really believe in the principle quoted I for one would not mind financial reimbursement for every newspaper I have bought in the last 20 years.—Yours, etq., M. D. E. ROCHE. April 12, 1984.
