Litter-free zones
Sir,—What we need is some good old-fashioned community spirit to awaken and increase the community’s respect for a pollution-free environment and a cleaner Christchurch city. Individuals and groups in suburbs, streets, malls, squares, etc., should look at cleaning up their surroundings, and business people could show a lead. There could even be a competition for the cleanest suburb, street, square or mall on a particular week. This would be much more creative than saluting a flag. Just imagine the City Mall being cleaner than the New Brighton Mall or Cathedral Square, or your street. — Yours, etc., GRAEME STANLEY. April 11, 1984.
