Helping the hungry

Sir,—The Soviet Union is upset by the deal that Angola and Mozambique have struck with South Africa. This is contrary to Russian policy of maintaining, for political reasons, a state of turmoil in that area. Defecting members of the African National Congress, testifying before the 1982 United States Senate Committee, confirmed that 90 per cent of its military aid and 60. per cent of its over-all aid came from Russia. They also told of being trained in Russian countries in terrorism, subversion and intimidation.~They had defected because the African National Congress had become communist and no longer represented black people. Almost half the World Council of Churches bounty to combat racism goes to southern Africa terrorists. How sad it is that obviously well-meaning people like J. R. Davies and K. Bernstein appear to be hooked on A.N.C. propaganda. — Yours, etc., BERT WALKER. April 12, 1984.
