Retail sales up 20 p.c.
PA Wellington The total value of retail sales in February this year was more than 20 per cent higher than in February last year. The Department of Statistics’ monthly survey of retail trade shows that the total value of sales was
$1464.2M in February, 1984, compared with only $1213.4M in February, 1983. The department says the actual increase is 16.8 per cent. Sales in February compared with January were up 3.2 per cent, after correction for seasonal variation and
differing numbers of trading days in each month. The biggest increase in February was in household appliances, up 37.2 per cent (unadjusted) over February, 1983. The smallest was in accommodation, up 2.4 per cent over 1983.
