Silencing-shot ricochets
rn iveison The Municipal Association conference yesterday heard the story of a man who shot a burglar alarm off a wall because it had been ringing for three days. The police had refused to do anything about the alarm because they did not have a key for the building and could not find the owner —
but they charged the man with discharging a. firearm in an urban area.
The Mayor of Henderson, Mr Assid Corban, told the story when seconding a remit on the control of unreasonable noise from burglar alarms. . The remit was put by the Mayor of Auckland, Mrs Catherine Tizard, who cited the example of an alarm which rang from 10.20 p.m. on a Friday to the next Tuesday morning. The remit was passed by the conference.
