Colin McCahon lost then found
NZPA staff correspondent Sydney The New Zealand artist, Colin McCahon, was found alive and well in Sydney, the police reported last evening. Mr McCahon, aged 63, went missing in the city’s Botanic Gardens on Wednesday morning and the police said yesterday that they had fears for his safety. He was found in Centennial Park, east of the city centre and five kilometres from the Botanic Gardens.
He was taken, to Saint Vincent’s Hospital for observation and allowed then to leave. Mr McCahon, one of New Zealand’s most noted artists, was to have opened the first Australian exhibition of his work last evening. He suffered a slight stroke about 18 months ago and it was reported to have affected his sense of direction. The police had said earlier that he might have wandered off and got lost.
