Quiet Hart protest
PA Wellington About 50 anti-apartheid campaigners stood silently outside the Wellington hotel where the union was holding the annual meeting. They were led by the Hart chairman, John Minto, and its international secrea, Trevor Richards who made brief speeches against the prospect of an All Black tour of South
Africa next year. The police were stationed in several areas of the hotel including outside the door of the meeting room, but the demonstrators were orderly and quiet. Mr Blazey told delegates before their lunch break that the police had asked them not to say anything to the protesters and not to make any gestures.
