Core curriculum
Sir, — The Minister of Education is at it again. The all important Core Curriculum Review Report has been released for public discussion but we simply have not been given adequate time for discussion. Next, we have the compulsory flag hoisting directive — the most laughable “educational” move by any Minister yet. Now he announces that he wants more geography and history in schools under the guise of a social studies syllabus review (“The Press,” April 11). Social studies is neither history nor geography; it is a separate subject dealing with society. From what I have read and heard of this review it seems to be another clear case of our education system suffering from political interference. — Yours, etc., ROSS DOWLING. April 11, 1984.
