U.S. visitors’ praise

Sir,—Before we depart from youE beautiful city may I be permitted to make two observations. We have found your citizens

most friendly and helpful. We shall always sing the praises of Christchurch to our fellow Americans when we return home. We will do our best to persuade our friends to come down to this gem of the Pacific. Second we observed your houses. We found the architecture just fascinating. We will always remember those magnificent character homes of Merivale. In our country they would sell at twice their current price. We wonder how much longer before they rise to what must surely be their true value in relation to the so-called modern houses.—Yours, etc., JAMES AND MABEL YOUNG. April 10, 1984.
