Sir,—The trades unions have unashamedly capitalised on the death of Ernie Abbott to promote sympathy for their movement. Union credibility has now been further eroded by the triviality of the secretary of the Canterbury branch of the Tramways Union, Mr Gower’s reply to Mrs Ritchie’s letter (April 11) requesting justification of emotive union pamphleteering after Mr Abbott’s death.—Yours, etc., VIVIAN BEDO.
