Joint local bodies union wanted

PA Nelson Efforts would be made to have one industrial union of employers for all local bodies, the annual meeting of the New Zealand Municipalities Industrial Union of Employers decided yesterday. Delegates at the meeting in Nelson heard strong support for the move from the unions president, Mr Ross Jansdn.

A joint association of local body employer unions would act as a co-ordinating and advisory group, he said. It would not be set up to “clobber employee unions” or to seek confrontation or unnecessary conflict with them. “Employee unions are strong and so they should be,” Mr Jansen said.
