S.I. hydro levels rise slightly
PA Wellington North Island hydro storage declined from 88 to 83 per cent during last week. In the South Island, levels rose slightly from 97 to 99 per cent, the Minister of Energy, Mr Birch, has said. Over all, New Zealand storage remained steady at 96 per cent of nominal full.
Maximum transfer of electricity over the interisland link was being maintained and thermal generation was used mainly to give support at peak-load periods, the Ministry’s Electricity Division said.
Huntly power station had started generating again, with a second and third unit yet to be commissioned. The cost of electricity generated by thermal stations last week was estimated at $967,000, compared with $862,000 for the previous week.
