Poll results

There were no real surprises in the latest readers’ poll held by “Melody Maker.” Culture Club took best single with “Karma Chameleon” and Boy George was the personality of ’B3 (Marilyn was 10th), Duran Duran took best live act, best album (“Seven and the Ragged Tiger”), and best band.

Runners up in the personality contest were John Taylor, Tracey Ullman, Simon le Bon, and David Bowie.

Behind Duran Duran as the best band were Culture Club, U2, and Big Country. Style Council did not make it to the first 10, but Simple Minds, Echo and the Bunnymen, and Siouxsie and the Banshees did.

In the record department, behind Culture Club’s “Karma Chameleon” single came two Duran Duran

songs, “Is There Something I Should Know” and “Union Of The Snake,” New Order’s “Blue Monday,” and “This Charming Man,” the Smiths. “Seven And The Ragged Tiger” took both best and worst album titles. Culture Club’s "Colour By Numbers” ran second in the best section and third in the worst. “War” by U2 was third best, and “No Parlez” by Paul Young fourth best and 10th worst. Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” was the fifth best and worst album. The second worst album was “Fantastic” by Wham! Top male singer was Boy George, followed by Simon le Bon (Duran Duran), and Paul Young. Surprisingly, Boy George did not make it as the best female singer, Annie Lennox (Eurythmics) was first, followed by Tracey Ullman, and Siouxsie.
