Nares back on record
The Nares, a band originally from Christchurch, have been quiet as far as the South Island is concerned, but all that will change next month when they release a single and come south on tour.
The new single, “Heart And Soul,” will be out in about six weeks, and the Nares will be playing at the Aranui Motor Hotel next month as part of a tour to promote the record. The band’s manager, Peter Fairhall, said the new record had already been well received by CBS Australia, and that the band is keen to cross the Tasman to break Australia. In contrast to the Nares’ previous releases, “Heart And Soul” features a more
muted lead guitar, and a fuller sound, thanks to the keyboards of the new member, Liam Ryan. The A-side was written by all the Nares, but the Bside, provisionally called “Myc Technic,” was a little ditty written by the drummer, Steve Clarkson, and only Clarkson and Ryan play on it. The band spent a holiday on a farm at Colville, on the Coromandel Peninsula, which also features an eight-track recording studio, and it was here that the songs were written. The Nares are also hoping to record an album at Mandrill Studios, and are apparently keen for Dave McArtney (of Pink Flamingos fame) to produce it.
