ANALYTICAL CHEMISTS New Zealand Synthetic Fuels Corporation, a joint venture between the New Zealand Government and Mobil, is building a major synthetic petrol plant near New Plymouth. This plant will convert natural.gas into methanol and then to petrol. The Corporation will employ some 300 permanent employees and provide about one third of New Zealand's petrol requirements. Applications are now invited for the following positions as Analytical Chemists in the Technical Department: WATER CHEMIST Responsible for the testing of the plant’s raw, treated and waste water and supervising the operation of the Water Laboratory. INSTRUMENT CHEMIST Responsible for the testing of the plant's gas, product and other samples and supervising the operation of the Instrument Laboratory. Candidates for both positions should hold a University Degree or equivalent in Chemistry or closely related subject. Prior experience of laboratory work in a supervisory capacity is essential. For the Instrument Chemist position, knowledge and experience of G.L.C., H.P.L.C., A.A.S. and on-line data systems would be an advantage. The Corporation's on-site laboratory is new and fully equipped with the latest instrumentation. The laboratory hours of work will be arranged on a two-shift basis providing coverage 16 hours a day, five days a week. All candidates must be prepared to work additional hours as required to meet operational needs.
