Charges withdrawn
Six charges against Berryman Properties, Ltd, of failing to account for tax deductions from its employees’ wages were withdrawn in the District Court yesterday. The Inland Revenue Department alleged that the company, which was developing Cramner Courts, had failed to account for deductions totalling
$38,279 between October, 1982, and March, 1983. No pleas were entered when the company first appeared on these charges last September. After numerous sittings of the High Court since then Mr Justice Cook last month approved a scheme of agreement to bind the company’s debts so the project
could proceed. Mr A. M. Mclntosh, for the Inland Revenue Department, said that as a creditor the department had agreed to the arrangement which took no account of any penalty that might be imposed on these charges. Judge Hattaway gave him permission to withdraw them.
