Air link application in abeyance

Wellington reporter

The application for a commercial air link between Christchurch and Greymouth is in abeyance. Coast Air Charter, Ltd, had its application to the Air Services Licensing Authority struck out after the disbanding of the Authority by legislation passed late last year. Coast Air has now been granted a C licence under the new legislation. That will enable it to continue its normal charter operations

carrying loads up to 2700 kg. In its Christchurch to Greymouth application, the firm had said it would be using a Twin Otter aircraft, which would require a B licence for heavier loads than a C licence. The new authority does not begin work until April 1, and so the firm could not apply for a B licence before, even it it wanted to. In the meantime, the Ministry of Transport has reissued a licence for Coast Air so that it can continue in business.
