Strikes

Sir,—A solution to pin-pricking strikes is to make it compulsory for all union officials to forgo their salary, expenses, car, etc. until the workers are back at work and receiving pay. If this were the case from the general secretary of each union down to every paid official, I am sure there would be talking first and action second. I find it appalling that paid union officials get up on a platform and urge fellow unionists to strike saying that it is their moral duty to do so, while they collect not only a generous salary but expenses while a strike is on. Would one of my

fellow unionists tell me if this is what is meant by workers’ solidarity?—Yours, etc., M. ROBSON, Havelock. March 6, 1984.
