Shipping news Beţer deal for exporters
The Auckland Regional Chamber of Commerce has helped to form a national freight-forwarders federation to get exporters a better shipping deal. The administration manager, Mr .G. O. Sharman, said yesterday the federation would help the “little guys" in the industry. Members would be able to negotiate their own bills of loading with banks, and the federation could negotiate more attractive terms for the shipment of cargoes. Mr Sharman said the organisation would be known as the New Zealand International Seafreight Forwarders Federation. About 30 companies had expressed an interest in joining, ne said. At the Port of Lyttelton, the Tasman Enterprise sailed for Dunedin after discharging her cargo of newsprint. She unloaded 3450 tonnes of newsprint, the first shipment this year. The Skulptor Zalkans left port yesterday after loading a small quantity of wool, about 1500 bales, for Europe and the Soviet Union.
