Aust. prices down
NZPA Sydney Share prices edged downward in quiet trading throughout yesterday after metal prices eased and prices weakened on the London and New York Stock Exchanges.
The main indices were at new 1984 lows. The all ordinaries index was down 6.5 at 718.4, with the all industrials losing 5.2 to 952.5 and the all resources off 7.4 at 532.9.
Among gold stocks, Central Norseman fell 40c to 640 c and Poseidon lost 35c to 460 c after a 71 per cent profit drop. Peko lost 20c to 530 c, Emperor 15c to 400 c and GMK 10c to 1150 c. Among leading miners,
WMC lost 5c to 395 c and Bougainville shed 9c to 242 c. North Broken Hill tumbled 15c to 255 c.
Bridge at 320 c, Ampol Ex 430 c and Hartogen 285 c fell sc. Crusader rose 20c to 365 c ahead of dividend. Interest rate concerns weakened industrial stocks. BHP fell 15c to 1290 c and CSR fell 7c to 351 c.
