Council drivers hold stop-work
Drivers at the Christchurch City Council’s northern yard in St Albans stopped work yesterday morning to discuss the action of a driver in resigning from the Canterbury Drivers’ Union.
The council’s deputy general manager of works, Mr H. E. Surtees, said that after talks between council
officers and the union the problem was resolved and there had been no effect on public services. The drivers returned to work, he said. Mr L. M. Bums, an organiser of the Driver’s Union, confirmed that there
had been a meeting but said that the meeting had decided not to make a public statement.
