Airline profit of $20M suggested

PA Auckland The chief executive of Air New Zealand, Mr Norman Geary, hinted last evening that the airline would achieve an operating profit of more than $2O million this financial year. Addressing the Fiji Institute of Accountants, he said that the second half of the financial year would . be "somewhat better” than the first six months.

The airline made a $lO million operating profit in the first half.

“I am not at liberty to

release at this stage any details of the second half of the financial year,” said Mr Geary. “But I can say that the period October, 1983, to March, 1984, will be somewhat better than the first six months.

“While it must be emphasised that Air New Zealand has some way to go before entirely satisfactory profits are achieved, it can be claimed that the company, a publicly owned company, has made considerable progress in turbulent times.”
