Closed session in Kong kidnap case
PA Timaru The jury in the Gloria Kong kidnapping case will not be recalled to the High Court at Timaru until Monday.
The trial of Paul Francis McFelin, agqd 30, and Karen Mary McFelin, aged 23, on charges associated with the abduction of Miss Kong from her home near Oamaru last June was to have resumed in front of the jury yesterday. However, the Court’s closed session continued for virtually the whole day and the Court will not sit today.
When the trial resumes on Monday the Crown will still have about 20 witnesses to call before the defence can begin its case. The trial, originally scheduled to last two weeks, began on February 20 and is now unlikely to finish for at least another fortnight.
