League plans scrapped
NZPA-AAP London British rugby league chiefs have scrapped plans for further trial matches for its training squad for the tour of Australia and New Zealand, despite pleas from the team’s coach, Frank Myler, and manager, Dick Gemmell.
The rugby league management committee decided not to approve games
against a New Zealand XIII, made up of Kiwis playing in the British competition, or Other Nationalities, which would have included some Australians. The committee’s reasons for refusing further matches are the pressure on club sides at this stage of the season and the threat of injuries to key players still involved in championship and cup matches.
