By

J. J. BOYLE

Paddy Speed, winner of five races, including the Amberley Cup, will do his future racing in Australia. He is to be raced on lease by Mr Jim Cheat, who last year bought Paddy Speed’s sire, Double Speed, for a stud he has established in North Queensland. Paddy Speed at times showed high promise as a stayer in his racing for Messrs Jack Phillips and John Cowan, of Christchurchfe His ' style of racing showed him at greatest ad-

vantage on the big courses. He won his first race at Ashburton in a light three-year-old programme two seasons ago. The Amberley Cup run at Riccarton was one of his four wins last season. Earlier last season he won two races at the New Zealand Cup meeting, and his fourth success as a four-year-old was at Ashburton. His best runs this season produced fourths in the Banks Peninsula and North Canterbury Cups. He was eased out of training jjfter running unplaced in the New Zealand Cup.
