Jurango ready for St Leger

Special correspondent Palmerston North

The St Leger candidate, Jurango, added interest to final trials at Awapuni yesterday when he worked impressively in preparation for tomorrow’s St Leger at Trentham.

Wellson ran a good trial for the Taranaki meeting on Monday and Camille came through her gallop in good style. She is in the Double Brown “1600” at Trentham tomorrow.

Most of the work took place on the inside trial which was lightning fast. Jurango had much the better of Black Emperor at the end of 1400 m in Imin 30.45, the last 600 m in 38.45.

Double Header was impressive running 1200 m in Imin 15.85, the last 6000 m in 37.45. This looked a winning trial for the Palliser Highweight. Cornwall King shaded Reeper Star and Pluck at the end of 800 m in 48.65, the last 600 m in 365. Cornwall King did not get much of a run here at the Marton meeting. He is in the Endeavour Handicap on Saturday but has drawn very wide.

Dancing Rose ran 1200 m in Imin 19s, the last 600 m in 375, being the fastest part. She looks better for her race on the first day at Trentham and could win at Taranaki on Monday. Chantilly Belle sped over 1000 m in Imin 0.65, the final 600 m in 36.65. She looks the likely winner of the Open Day Handicap at Taranaki on Monday. Super Tai left 1200 m behind in Imin 14.45, the last 600 m in 375. He ran a fair race on the first day at Wellington and is in the Double Brown “1600” on Saturday. Wellson was brilliant over 1000 m in Imin Is, the last 600 m in 375. He is thriving and could go close in the Boron Handicap at New Plymouth.

Felido and Mussella recorded Imin 3.65, for 1000 m, the last 600 m in 38.65. Mussella should go well in the Eastbourne Handicap at Trentham.

On the plough Camille galloped an easy 800 m in 51.65, the last 600 m in 38s. She is better than she showed last week and has to be kept on side for the Double Brown “1600” tomorrow.
