Qantas flight delays
Three of the four Qantas flights due to leave or arrive at Christchurch Airport today will be delayed several hours because of a stop-work meeting by flight stewards.
Qantas Flight 84 to Sydney due to leave Christchurch at 5.30 p.m. will be delayed until 7 p.m. and Qantas Flight 88 to Melbourne will leave at 9.20 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. Air New Zealand’s airport services supervisor, Mr K. A. Velde, said the new reporting times for these flights were 5.30 p.m. for Flight 84 and 8 p.m. for Flight 88. Qantas Flight 57 from Sydney will be affected by the stop-work meeting, arriving at 7.50 p.m. instead of 3.50 p.m. However, Qantas Flight 78 from Melbourne will arrive at the scheduled time of 5.25 p.m. The stop-work meeting, which will begin at 7 a.m. (New Zealand time), is so that stewards can discuss future action over Qantas plans to have them work a 16-hour tour of duty on the proposed direct Los Angeles run.
The Flight Stewards’ Association’s Federal secretary, Mr Warren Smith, said stewards now had a maximum 14-hour tour of duty.
