Launch victim named
Blenheim reporter The name of an elderly man who died when his launch exploded off Waikawa Bay op Tuesday afternoon has been given by the Picton police. He was William James Howell, ■ aged 81, of Picton. Mr Howell died as a result of injuries suffered when he was trapped in the burning launch Kotara after
it burst into flames about 200 m off Waikawa Bay at 2 p.m. His companion, Mr Eric Sixtus, also of Picton, was thrown clear by the explosion. He was treated at Wairau Hospital for burns. Mr Howell’s body was recovered by a Marlborough Harbour Board launch and brought back to Picton. The launch sank after the explosion.
