Companies to sell lamb to Japanese
PA Wellington The Meat Board has named the companies forming a consortium to develop the Japanese market for lamb. The companies are Top Trading New Zealand, Ltd, which is owned by several big meat companies, Waitaki N.Z. Refrigerating, Ltd, and C. S. Stevens and Company, Ltd. Japan was declared a development market by the board in 1982. The consortium company will be called Japan N.Z. Marketing Company, Ltd,
and the shareholding will be split equally between the three companies and the board. The chairman is Mr Cecil Stevens, chairman of C. S. Stevens, and the deputy chairman is Mr Mervyn Barnett, a member of the Meat Board. Other directors are Mr Athol Hutton, managing director of Waitaki N.Z. Refrigerating; Mr Eric Cammell, chairman of the executive committee of Top Trading; Mr Adam Begg; and Mr James Bremner, chairman and chief executive of the Meat Board.
