The big number of fishing boats calling at the port to bunker had meant that berths were at a premium, said the Harbourmaster, Captain J. A. Barbour, yesterday. “We are just managing to cope,” he said. “The port’s berthage is fully used. There are no spare berths.” The increase in shipping movements has meant that Harbour Board pilots have been kept busy guiding vessels to their berths. In one recent 24-hour * period, pilots supervised 26 shipping movements in the port The big number of fishing boats in port coincides with the peak of the tuna and squid season.
