New battery
Todd Motors, Poriruabased Mitsubishi assembler, plans to introduce mainten-ance-free batteries on all Japanese cars the company asssembles.
Maintenance-free batteries have been available in the replacement market for some months, but the company is the first car assem- ' bier to announce installation of the batteries as original equipment. Chloride batteries will be fitted and, according to the battery manufacturer, the sealed units should have a life of about three years, depending on usage. As a result of the major advances in battery technology that have been made, as manufacturers have sought to develop batteries for electric cars, the use of sealed units is now practicable.
